The votes are in and the winning One Act Play is Tracks, by the Class of 2013. The juniors' play featured ten actors, including both veteran and debuting students, pondering life and death, under the direction of Sam Biasi, a first-time director. Shannon Doherty-Keelan’s portrayal of the Homeless Girl got the judges’ attention for Outstanding Actress, while the entire cast was awarded Best Ensemble. The playwright, Peter Tarsi, attended the opening night performance, and gave the cast and crew high marks for their interpretation of his work.

This was the third annual Festival One Act Plays at GDRHS. Directors from each class picked plays and worked with actors to bring the plays to life. Maria Smith ‘12, directed an ensemble of eight seniors, all GD Drama Guild veterans, in Stop the Clocks. At turns comedic and dark, the play explored the life’s unpredictable stages with each ensemble member in multiple roles. Joseph Dussault '12 and Ben Icenogle '12 were both named outstanding actors.

The sophomore entry, One Lane Bridge, was a chilling ghost story about a 16-year-old boy driving at night with a mysterious stranger. Six narrators added to the creepy atmosphere. Emily Gaines was judged Best Director, Lori Brackett as Eli was named outstanding actress and Adriana Barranco was awarded outstanding debut in the role of Samantha.

The freshman director, Jack Phelps, selected a comedy, Math for Actors. There were lots of laughs from the audience as the smitten actor and sassy math tutor traded barbs laced with theater and math jokes. John Killian was awarded outstanding debut in his first role with the GD Drama Guild.

Special thanks to the judges: Rachel D'Onfro, Chairman of the Stratton Players; Sheila Harrington, State Representative for the First Middlesex District; Ewin Knights, Boston area actor and director, including for the Present Players; and Meredith Marcinkewicz, Artistic Director or Shirley Arts!

Watch for notices about GODSPELL, the Spring musical, which is scheduled to open at the Black Box Theater on Friday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
